What we believe
“For God so loved the world that he gave his one and only Son, that whoever believes in him shall not perish but have eternal life.” - John 3:16
That's a quotation from the Bible which summarises what we as a Christian Union are all about: God's good news. This verse tells us several things about this good news:
- This good news comes from God's love for us. The Bible says we have all turned away from God, living for ourselves and not for him - and yet he loves us just the same.
- This good news is all about his Son, Jesus. God showed his love for us by sending Jesus, his only Son, to rescue us from the punishment we deserve for turning away from God. When Jesus died on the cross, he paid the price that we deserve to pay so that we can be forgiven.
- This good news means we can have eternal life! The amazing promise of the gospel is that if we trust in the rescue Jesus performed for us on the cross, we'll enjoy eternal life with God.
That really is amazingly good news! This good news is right at the heart of our college group. Our aim is to make Jesus Christ known in Queens' - we want to help our friends think about him.
As a Christian Union we don't have special links with any particular church and we welcome Christians from all kinds of backgrounds. If you want to become a member of CICCU, the Cambridge-wide Christian Union that we're a part of, you'll be asked to sign our Doctrinal Basis which sets out in more detail the core truths about the good news that we believe in.
You can find out a lot more about what a Christian Union is and does on CICCU's website or more generally on the website of UCCF, a big group of university Christian Unions from across the country of which Cambridge is a member.
